First Friday is a year-round event, organizers said, so those who wish to come
downtown Friday for after-hours entertainment should stick with those
plans.
“Think of it this way,” Kay Moore, director of Downtown Gadsden
Inc., said. “There is a first Friday in every month, so there will
always be a First Friday in historic downtown Gadsden.
In January
and February, when the weather gets colder, attendance gets smaller, so
we don’t close the streets at night, but we’re still here.”
Car
clubs and other vehicle groups are expected to attend for a cruise-in,
and Moore expects there to be ample parking available in the 300 and 400
blocks.
Vendors usually spend January and February revamping
their trailers and equipment to get ready for spring festivals. This
means First Friday attendees will be patronizing restaurants, bars and
stores for dining, entertainment and shopping, Moore said.
Looking
ahead, Moore said it is time to begin planning for the fifth annual
Chili Cook-off, which takes place Feb. 4, the day after First Friday.
